I'd always thought of "Under Siege" as Seagal's flirtation with mainstream respectability after a string of grungy and violent action vehicles like "Marked for Death" With Andrew Davis behind the camera, the production values do feel slicker than before, with dynamic lighting and military hardware.

This is a pretty awesome action flick if you ask me. I'm not even a Steven Seagal fan but I gotta say, the guy really does kick some ass in this one. He was just the cook but the bad guys made him sock it to 'em. Speaking of bad guys, I can see why Tommy Lee Jones got praised for his bad guy here. Anyways, this movie's great. I slept on this one.

Too bad Segal fled to Russia. A wasted opportunity to be something more than a Die Hard rip-off; it starts surprisingly well and for the first 30 minutes the cinematography in the confined compartments of the battleship creates the right kind of atmosphere, serenely controlled by Steven Seagal's prowess; even when the terrorists take over the suspense remains, before a lapse into the risible Eleniak striptease girl in commando outfit triumph.

I also cook. And this one has a off-the-rails Tommy Lee Jones in it. I mean, I'm all in. Erika Eleniak strips out of a cake revealing her lovely melons. It is an inferior "Die Hard" copy for sure, but compared to the two last sequels in that franchise this movie looks like a diamond necklace. We also see her bare behind, clad only with a G-string. One kiss. A microwave is booby trapped to explode and when it does one guy ends up with shards of glass in his face and neck.

Another guy gets stabbed int he neck, another gets choked. A bunch get shot. A helicopter blows up on the deck of the ship and a number of guys are shown flying and on fire.
